The Role

Our client is seeking Senior Lawyers to support the Administrative Appeals Branch of a high profile Commonwealth agency working primarily in matters before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).
These are leadership positions within the agency and you will have demonstrated leadership and management skills. The successful candidates will be required to manage a large case load of AAT cases, represent the agency in AAT appearances, advise on administrative decision-making and assist in the professional development of more junior team members.

The Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the position will include:
• appearing in the AAT, at case conferences, conciliations and directions hearings;
• providing advice to the CEO, Deputy CEOs and case managers and instructing counsel in hearings;
• briefing external lawyers and counsel;
• leading a team of lawyers running AAT matters, both in-house and as instructors to external firms;
• assisting with the development of the in-house legal practice;
• managing the priorities of clients and available resources (including staff) to deliver results on time and within budget;
• applying alternate dispute resolution methods and advocacy skills to resolving applications/reviews, in keeping with the model litigant principles;
• preparing and contributing to a range of written material, including briefing material for ministers; and
• continuing development of systems, processes and practical tools including training to support alternative dispute resolution and good administrative decision-making.

The Requirements

The successful candidates will have outstanding communication skills, sound analytical abilities and advanced dispute resolution skills.
Previous Commonwealth experience advising on AAT matters would be highly regarded.
Admission as a legal practitioner and experience in administrative law and legal practice are essential.

The Role

The Responsibilities

The Role

The Responsibilities

The successful applicants will ideally have legal qualifications or be in the advanced stages of completing tertiary qualifications in law or a related discipline.
The responsibilities for the role will include:
• assisting with or providing high quality legal advice, support and services to internal clients in the management and resolution of participant related reviews in the AAT;
• preparing tribunal documents and lodging them with the AAT;
• drafting legal documents such as briefs to counsel and expert witnesses, Statements of Issues and other legal documents;

• being timely, reliable and working under pressure;
• ensuring effective communication with team members and internal stakeholders; and

Candidates for the Graduate Lawyer positions must be admitted as an Australian Legal Practitioner.

The Role

Our client, is seeking an experienced commercial adviser to develop and lead the commercial strategy for a Commonwealth Department’s high-profile project.  The commercial adviser will engage with the project team to identify, anticipate and respond to needs and expectations to achieve capability development, acquisition and sustainment outcomes. The commercial adviser will be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex to very complex contract management work within an integrated workplace. 

The Duties

The key responsibilities will include:

  • the provision of procurement planning, tendering and contract management activities, ensuring compliance with legislation, procurement policies, processes and procedures;
  • managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes;
  • providing advice, direction, and assistance to the integrated project manager to support contract management and commercial strategy outcomes;
  • supporting the integrated project manager in all contract negotiations, preparation of Contract Change Proposals, and contract performance/compliance measurement and management;
  • engaging and negotiating with clients and stakeholders and responding to issues, taking the initiative to identify alternate action where necessary; and
  • building and sustaining relationships with stakeholders including industry representatives.

The Requirements

Experience working on large, high-profile Defence projects would be highly regarded. 

Higher degree qualifications or relevant industry experience of more than 8 years with at least higher education sector accreditation at minimum advanced diploma level are desirable.

A current NV 1 security clearance at a minimum is essential.

The Duties

The key responsibilities will include:

  • conducting market research, industry engagement activity and approaches to market;
  • developing procurement-related documentation including appropriate procurement templates, schedules, correspondence, reports, submissions, plans and strategies, risk analysis, and other contract management documentation;
  • conducting and advising on procurement processes, including tender evaluation activities;
  • advising on management of existing contracts, including drafting and reviewing contract correspondence;
